Have you ever considered what affect your daily commute to/from the workplace has on your mental health?
And what can you do to help alleviate stress and help to use your time more effectively?
If you catch public transport, here’s some tips for surviving the daily commute and to help decrease your stress levels and make for a more enjoyable journey.
1. Use your time wisely to read that book you’ve never previously had the time to read, or listen to an interesting pod cast. Perhaps even learn a new skill or language with the aid of an audio book or app.
2. Listen to calming music. Upbeat tunes and heavy metal can sometimes create a stressful environment. Try listening to some calming classical or relaxing music to help set a calm relaxed tone for the day ahead.
3. Look out the window. This one’s simple, but just enjoy the view and get lost in your own thoughts. This form of mindful meditation is great for making the journey appear to go by faster, and helps to reduce your stress levels.
4. Use the time to complete some simple tasks, like writing out your shopping list, reconnect with an old friend or your loved ones by writing them a letter, or at this time of year, use the time to write out your Christmas cards. This will free up some time for you later on to help enjoy a more harmonious work/life balance.
These are just some simple tips to help you pass the time on your daily commute, help to reduce your stress levels in some way, and help to ease into the busy work day ahead.
